Performance space
We’re often asked how we’d like the room or hall laid out for our children’s party shows – Every venue is different so we’ll arrive in good time to assess and advise you the best way to lay out the room for your child’s party.
If you’re serving party food then it’s usually best to set up the tables and chairs near to the kitchen area. A table for your child’s party presents received is useful, so the gifts can be opened later and you can note who they are from.
Balloons & noisemakers!
These can be great fun at a party but we respectfully ask that you keep these until the end of the party and refrain from scattering balloons all over the floor please. Many children and adults(!) are scared of balloons and what starts as gentle play, can often lead to crying, boisterous activity and chaos 🙂
However, we can arrange for the children to play with the balloons with a special dance at the end of the party, if you’d like. In our opinion, this is much better and if there any balloons unpopped(!) they can be taken home by the children.
If used as decorations, it’s best if they are positioned out of reach. Noisemakers are best handed out at the end of the party.
Children’s parties in a hall
We’re best positioned away from any doors that are in use, and preferably near a power socket – we’ll bring our own extension leads just in case.
We prefer not to perform on a stage – if there is one we’ll close any curtains and work in front of it. We’ll arrange a semi-circle of chairs to mark out a performance area. The children will sit on the floor for the show, but the chairs help to contain everyone.
Some shy children like their grown-ups nearby, especially at the start of the party – so adults can sit on these chairs if they like and we often arrange a secondary row of chairs for the adults as well, so they can be near their little ones…and enjoy the fun too…just a bit further back!
For children’s parties in a house it’s not necessary for a semi-circle of chairs – we’ll fit and adjust to the area available.
Children’s parties outside
These shows can be great fun and in very warm weather it often makes sense to have a party outside – we’ll need access to a nearby power supply please.
A large tarpaulin laid out on the ground is a good idea to mark an area for the children to sit on.
We all hope for a fine day, but bad weather/adverse conditions should be planned for.
As well as wet or windy weather, on very hot and bright sunny days, you may need to use a shady zone and position the performance area so the sun isn’t shining into the party guests’ or performer’s eyes! (remembering the sun will move around during the day)
Sometimes a good compromise is to do the show inside/under cover and have the party food outside.
